Folliculitis Information and Treatment
Folliculitis is inflammation of one or more hair follicles . It is a common disorder of the skin, and it can occur at any age. While folliculitis can occur anywhere there is body hair, most often it appears in areas that become irriated by shaving, the rubbing of clothes, or where follicles and pores are blocked by oils and dirt. Coomon sites of folliculitis include the face, the scalp, under the arms, and on the legs. Any part of the skin can be involved except for the palms and soles. Folliculitis usually appears as small, white-headed pimples around one or more hair follicles the tiny pockets from which each hair grows. Most infections are superficial, and although they may itch, they're seldom painful. Superficial folliculitis often clears by itself in a few days, but deep or recurring folliculitis may need medical treatment.
Pseudomonas folliculitis is an inflammation of the hair follicles caused by infection with the bacteria P. aeruginosa. It has been reported in persons using hot tubs, whirlpools, saunas, swimming pools, waterslides and physiotherapy pools. This condition can occur anywhere on the skin. It results in tender red spots often with surface pustules. It could occur due to infection, irritation, occlusion and specific skin diseases. It affects both men and women at any stage of their lives. They can result in boils and in some cases serious skin infections. The bacteria can enter the blood stream and travel to other parts of the body.
